Piano Care FAQ
Welcome to our Piano Care FAQ, where you’ll find essential tips for maintaining your instrument. Explore our answers to common questions and ensure your piano remains in top condition for years to come.
How Often Does My Piano Need To Be Tuned?
We recommend at least one tuning per year. We can send you annual reminders so that your piano continues to sound great whenever you sit down to play.
In certain situations, more frequent tunings may be needed. These may include concert venues, schools, or buildings with high variations in temperature and humidity.
How Should I Clean My Piano?
You can safely dust the outside of your piano with a duster or a slightly damp cloth. We like microfiber or cotton. Beware of synthetic stitching on the cloth, which can scratch high-gloss finishes.
If you want to go the extra mile, products from Cory Care are excellent. They are formulated for piano finishes.
For the fragile interior componets, schedule a cleaning service with us. See the Piano Cleaning page for more information.
What Is The Best Place For The Piano In My Home?
The most important thing is to protect your piano from drastic changes in humidity and temperature. It is best to position the piano out of direct sunlight and away from vents, furnaces, open windows or doors, etc. The more stable the climate is, the better your piano will perform.
What Humidity Levels Are Safe For My Piano?
Keeping the piano within a range of 40%-55% relative humidity is encouraged, with 45% being ideal. For optimal protection, a humidity control system can be installed in your piano. See the Humidity Control page for more details.
