Would you like your piano to stay in tune for as long as possible after it is serviced?  Then a humidity control system is a good investment to make.  Whether you have a small upright piano or a 9-foot concert grand, Gress Piano Service can install a humidity control system directly into your piano, helping to protect your investment from harmful humidity fluctuations.

Why Does Humidity Matter?

Picture
Rusted Piano Strings
Changes in temperature and humidity are the biggest reasons why pianos go out of tune.  As the seasons change, the relative humidity around your piano can fluctuate drastically.  These humidity fluctuations can cause the wooden soundboard in your piano to swell and shrink throughout the year, changing the tension of the strings and compromising the tuning.

In addition, humidity fluctuations can cause serious structural damage to pianos over time.  Wooden components of the piano can begin to warp, or even crack.  Metal components can begin to rust.  This can result in thousands of dollars spent on repairs.

How to Control It?

Gress Piano Service is a certified installer of the Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver system.  This is a humidity control system that is installed directly into your piano.  Other humidity control solutions, such as full-home or full-room climate control, can involve costly home renovations and high energy bills.  The Piano Life Saver system provides targeted humidity control for your piano with minimal energy consumption.

Dehumidifier System

This is an affordable, low-maintenance option for preserving the tuning stability of your piano.  Simply plug it in.  That's it!  The included humidistat automatically turns off the system when healthy levels are reached, to prevent overdrying.

Available for upright pianos and grand pianos.

Full System

This is a humidifier/dehumidifier combination system, for ultimate humidity control.  The included humidistat detects the relative humidity around the piano and automatically regulates the system to maintain healthy humidity levels.  An indicator-light panel shows when the system needs more water to be added.  Also included are a special watering can, a set of humidifier pads, and liquid treatment that is added to the water before it goes into the humidifier.

This system requires some basic maintenance by periodically refilling the humidifier and occasionally replacing the humidifier pads.  This can be performed by you or your piano technician.  Maintenance frequency varies depending on humidity conditions.
